Musings on Motherhood this Mother's Day

Whether mums of real babies, fur babies... or both, we love this day that celebrates all that mothers are and do. As a team of mostly women, we asked our wonderful Eadie Mums to share their musings on motherhood this Mother's Day...

Trudie, Founder & CEO

What do you love about being a mum?
I think being a mum is a privilege. We are gifted the opportunity to guide another human through life's journey and at the same time we are gifted the many lessons on life and love that comes with the responsibility of motherhood. I love the textures and range of emotions that I experience with my girls. From tears through to laughter.
On the flip side - what do you find challenging?
Probably the same thing as what I love - the textures and range of emotions that I experience with my girls. I have 3 strong willed, independent thinking girls, whom I adore. But sometimes when you blend four strong willed females, it can be volatile :)
What stands out in your mind as a memorable Mothers Day or gift?
The beautiful artwork from the days my girls were little and in pre school. I have many of them framed. My girls are now all young adults so its lovely having those memories on the wall as a constant reminder of how much they have grown and how quickly time goes. It reminds me to cherish every day.
Do you have a sweet or funny story from motherhood?
Oh thats a hard one. There are so many! But I think I have loved imparting my love of travel with my girls. I have taken them each individually on a trip overseas. I took Claudia to China, Lillian to France and Molly to New York. I wanted them to develop a curiosity for travel from a young age. I loved spending time with each one of them individually and seeing them experience new tastes, sights and cultures. It gave us one on one time together that was really precious. We are planning another trip all together later in the year. We want to go somewhere none of us have been. I can't wait.

Sara, Production Manager

What do you love about being a mum?
The constant hugs & cuddles and nonjudgmental love for you. They think you're the best person in the world regardless of what you do.

On the flip side - what do you find challenging?
Despite absolutely everything I do for them, they like their dad more than me! They just think he is amazing and the coolest. I'll bring them some chocolate and they will be like "thanks daddy". Hard pill to swallow!

What stands out in your mind as a memorable Mothers Day or gift?
So my two boys are 1 and 3 years old so I am hoping that my most memorable mothers day and gifts are yet to come, they don't get out to the shops much at the minute I am training them up, I feel like in the next few years that's when they are really going to hit their straps with giving me the most memorable Mothers Day!

Do you have a sweet or funny story from motherhood?
I will try stay away from stories not many people will want to hear, like poo stories
I think this is so sweet and I don't remember how it started but - their extended family lives on the other side of the world in Ireland & every night when it gets dark, they ask their cousins or grandparents to send them the moon and my boys send them the sun. And when they wake up in the morning they will say "nana and papa sent us the sun"! and they will call them back and tell them they will send back the moon. It was confusing for them this one morning when I was driving them to daycare and the moon was out in broad daylight and when they spoke to their grandparents that night Oliver exclaimed "NANA we forgot to send you the moon!"

Rebecca, General Manager

What do you love about being a mum?
I love being a mum of 6 gorgeous girls and this role comes naturally to me.  My favourite thing about being a mum is experiencing  all of their life milestones right by their side.  There is nothing more rewarding them watching my girls grow into beautiful ladies.
On the flip side - what do you find challenging?
That my children are all completely different and they all come with their own challenges and I love them for all their good and bad points
What stands out in your mind as a memorable Mothers Day or gift?
I do cherish the gifts I received from the school mothers day stall when my kids were younger but I must admit that now they’re older I do love that they know exactly what to organise or gift me. Now that they are older they want me to feel special as a mum - they cherish me as a mum and a friend.
Do you have a sweet or funny story from motherhood?
There’s just too many moments, I could write a book on it. I can’t think of just one and If I do it’ll be an embarrassing story!

Chrissie, Head of Marketing

What do you love about being a mum?
Watching my 2 year old and 16 year old interact would be my favourite thing of all. The love they have for each other melts my heart.

On the flip side - what do you find challenging?
That the challenges are constantly changing. Just when I think I have it all worked out, another challenge pops up!

What stands out in your mind as a memorable Mothers Day or gift?
This one was actually organised by my partner when I was pregnant with our daughter. He penned a beautiful hand written letter from her inside the womb. It talked about how hard it was to organise flowers because the reception was terrible inside my tummy, that she was enjoying all the chocolate I was eating and how incredibly cool she thought her dad sounded.

Do you have a sweet or funny story from motherhood?
When my son was about six or seven and didn’t want to go to bed, I tried to pull the “I’m in charge” card and he turned to me and said “No, my heart is the boss of me”. I thought that was pretty sweet.

Caitlin, National Sales Manager

What do you love about being a mum?
Love, laughter & a favourite person in your life who is growing & changing daily.
On the flip side - what do you find challenging?
It’s a constant challenge, but it keeps us on our toes!! Even a bad day is a pretty good day.
What stands out in your mind as a memorable mothers day or gift?
A few years ago, my daughter was about 12 & she rode her bike to a local flower shop & bought me a plant & a croissant for breakfast with her own money, while I was enjoying a sleep in.
Do you have a sweet or funny story from motherhood?
I love the way my relationship is constantly evolving & this beautiful new friendship I am forming with them as they grow.

Tracy, Warehouse Supervisor

What do you love about being a mum?
Wine O'clock! - really though, there are so many. I think most of all, watching my little people grow into big people.

On the flip side - what do you find challenging?
Teenagers. Years 12- 18 I feel like you lose them for a little while and you miss them. But then they come back to you again. It's all worth it in the end but that's why I have Wine O'clock.

What stands out in your mind as a memorable Mothers Day or gift?
Usually the presents from the school mothers day stall, the silly little pottery things or mugs or pot plants or bath salts. They picked them out themselves and it's special.

Do you have a sweet or funny story from motherhood?
Jess, my daughter and I got tattoos together in Bali - we got matching love hearts. And we swore we would never go on a scooter in Bali and we both ended up on scooters.

Kylie, Production Supervisor

What do you love about being a mum?
The unconditional love that my kids give to me.
On the flip side - what do you find challenging?
Time schedules and getting everyone dressed to get out of the door in the morning.
What stands out in your mind as a memorable Mothers Day or gift?
I think last year one of my children made me a beautiful bird house out of paper that had a hand made pom pom inside - it was very special.
Do you have a sweet or funny story from motherhood?
We recently birthed a Chrysalis, that was exciting for all of us! The day of the birthing I actually thought it was deceased and I had to call in an expert to double check, the feedback was to be patient. That afternoon when we came home, Spotty the butterfly appeared so we set her free. It was beautiful.

Jo, Warehouse Team Member

What do you love about being a mum?
I think what I love the most is the little everyday things like when my boys were at school they would come up to me and give me a hug and a kiss, it didn't matter if they were in front of their friends. Or my daughter, she would come snuggle up in my bed, even if I’m not there because she says it still smells like me because it makes her feel better. Little things like that are the most special.
On the flip side - what do you find challenging?
I think the hardest so far when I reflect on it, when the kids were younger I would think how hard even getting the most simple of things done were like getting the kids in the car & out of the car and to do the grocery shopping but now in comparison that was SO easy compared to having to negotiate life with young adults.
What stands out in your mind as a memorable Mothers Day or gift?
I have every single card that my kids have ever made me, every single one down to the little cut out love heart cards to my daughters artwork folded up into a card.
Generally someone cooks me breakfast in bed and my husband tries to clean up afterwards so I don't have to!
Do you have a sweet or funny story from motherhood?
Well Liam, my son, has a really exceptional sense of humour so he is always making everyone laugh. I often will make dumb statements so they don’t miss a thing and don’t fail to make a joke about it!
