How to wash linen sheets?

To start, always check the care label for special instructions. Most linen sheets in Australia can be washed in a standard washing machine, but separate them from other fabrics if possible, and separate into lights and darks. Wash on a cold gentle cycle, as hot water may cause linen to shrink or weaken the fibres, with a delicate detergent and no bleach. To hand wash, soak linen bed sheets in cold water and a little detergent for 10 minutes, then swoosh the fabric around with your hands. Do not twist or scrub the fabric, as this can damage the fibres. Rinse, and line dry.

 

How to soften new linen sheets?

Good quality linen softens as it ages, making it more enjoyable the longer you have it. To hasten the process when you buy new linen sheets, combine half a cup of baking soda in a laundry tub of water and soak your linen bed sheets for a few hours. Then wash as normal. Continue to add a little baking soda to your laundry powder every time you wash your sheets, as it helps prevent detergent buildup on the fibres.
